Hello Doctor,
Well it's time to break out the grills, bbq's and ice buckets because memorial day is finally here! This is the time of year I absolutely love because the weather here in NJ is as close to incredible as we will ever see.
It's 80 degrees sunny and slight breezy and all you can smell in my town are the coal and gas burning BBQ's cooking morning noon and night.
As you can see from the photo of my neighbor on the right some people here in NJ take their grilling to the extreme!
I just recently finished a crazy schedule of classes travelling from Ohio to Florida. So these few days of rest at my retreat in the Pocono's will surely be well deserved. What's great about being able to relax for a few days isn't just the fine cuban cigars and the aged rum that I keep in my wine cellar in my cellar, it's that I can also get more focused on what I need to do and concentrate on some ideas that I've had stirring in my mind during my travels.
But before I go on and let you in on them, let me remind you that ideas can actually do more good than harm. Ideas almost destroyed me. They did.
I used to think ideas were the greatest thing in the world. Back when I first started my journey as a chiropractor, I would have a new idea on a Monday, tell a few people. Thursday, another idea would come to me. A week later I came up with the 'greatest idea ever' in the shower and told a few more people. And on and on and on.
Are you getting the picture... Sound like someone you know...
Ideas were coming to me in an avalanche (and they still do) that I became the
most scattered person on the planet. Completely scattered. I was caught in the claws of what I call the 'Idea Avalanche'.
The 'Idea Avalanche' is the chiropractor's curse...
You have so many ideas and then you look back years later and you've accomplished next to nothing. What a waste. I wasted so much time. But ideas are neutral. They can be good or bad. They are what you make of them only.
What raised me from failure to success wasn't tons of ideas, it was discovering how to focus and concentrate. This wasn't easy for me. I see so many doctors getting beat up from a lack of focus. They follow the 'latest, greatest, gimmick' and their
progress is in cement. It doesn't move. You, me, us, we're better then that. Much better.
Find your focus. Take one step at a time. Just one. You can do it. You know you can.
Stop being busy. Start being a productive chiropractor. You can do it.
The cure for the idea avalanche is to make a CONSCIOUS attempt to bring 1% more focus and concentration into your life daily.
My fellow student of life, colleague and friend, I see you developing the skill of laser like focus.
I see you becoming an individual, a doctor who can accomplish anything you want with the power of focused concentration.
Start now.
Until next time. HAVE A GREAT MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!!
